Uzbekistan tourist registration

Foreign visitors are required to maintain a record of where they stay in Uzbekistan. For a conventional hotel itinerary this is usually almost invisible: reception registers the guest. Confusion starts with apartments, relatives, camping, overnight trains or routes that leave unexplained gaps.

What registration is—and what it is not

Registration records your accommodation; it is not a replacement for a visa or entry stamp. The information links your passport to an address and dates. Authorities can request a record of your stay, so a route should not contain casual unregistered nights.

Hotels and licensed guesthouses

At check-in, reception copies or scans your passport and completes the registration. Ask whether it has been done and keep any printed slip or digital confirmation they provide. Even when records are electronic, a simple folder of confirmations makes a departure query easier to resolve.

• Use the same passport you entered with.
• Check that arrival and departure dates are correct.
• Keep the confirmation until after leaving Uzbekistan.
• Ask immediately if a property says registration is unnecessary.

Private homes and apartments

If you stay with friends, relatives or in accommodation that does not operate as a registered hotel, the host should understand how to register foreign visitors through the relevant district office or the Emehmon electronic system. Discuss this before booking—not late at night after arrival.

Do not assume a rental platform automatically completes the local requirement. Ask the host a direct question: “Will you register every guest for every night and provide confirmation?” If the answer is unclear, choose another property or obtain authoritative guidance.

Moving between cities

Each accommodation records its own dates. If you change city and stay long enough to trigger local registration, the new property handles the next period. A well-planned Tashkent–Samarkand–Bukhara–Khiva route therefore creates a continuous chain.

Overnight trains can create a legitimate travel night, but keep the ticket. The same principle applies to a late flight or organised yurt stay: retain evidence and make sure the accommodation provider understands its responsibilities.

Camping, camper vans and yurt camps

Current guidance states that independent campers and camper-van travellers need to register themselves through Emehmon. Online tourist-tax payment may require an Uzbek card, which makes improvisation difficult. Organised camps typically handle the process, but confirm this in writing.

How to avoid registration gaps

1. List every night of the itinerary before departure.
2. Mark each as hotel, private stay, camp, train or flight.
3. Confirm who registers every hotel, private or camp night.
4. Save transport tickets for nights spent in transit.
5. Check the folder before leaving each city.

Never manufacture a slip or ask a hotel to register a night you stayed elsewhere. Resolve an honest mistake through the accommodation, local authority or your tour operator.
